Edinburgh Fringe

Now, if we're talking about comedy in Edinburgh, it'd be remiss of me not to discuss the elephant in the room—the Edinburgh Fringe! 🏰

The Fringe, as locals and veterans fondly call it, isn't just a run-of-the-mill comedy fest—it's the planet's biggest arts festival! The Edinburgh Fringe Festival attracts over 4.5 million attendees. Every August the city gears up for a comedy surge like no other. Performers, casual visitors, and hardcore comedy fans from every corner of the globe flock to the streets of this Scottish city. The Edinburgh Fringe Festivalfeatures over 1,000 comedy shows.

So, what makes it so special? Well, the sheer range of shows and performers for starters. Established kings and queens of comedy (think big shots like John Bishop and Sarah Millican!) perform alongside the freshest talent on the comedy circuit—many getting their big breaks right here! What's more, it's not just stand-up. You'll find improv, sketch shows, comedic theatre, musical comedy.

Some of our earlier mentions, like The Stand Comedy Club and the Monkey Barrel, play hosts during the Fringe, featuring some of the most popular shows. So, if you're planning a visit during August, make sure to book early—it's a hot ticket! 🎟️🔥

Here's a tip: Many of these shows operate on a "pay what you can" system, so you can enjoy world-class comedy without breaking the bank. But do remember, every penny goes to the hardworking performers, so be generous if you can!

If you love comedy and find yourself in Edinburgh August, the Fringe is a must-visit. An overwhelming, riotous, and exhilarating celebration of comedy. It truly embodies the spirit of Edinburgh as a comedy capital!
